I had a very weak attempt at regular blogging about a year ago, but 60 hour work weeks ultimately broke me down–and now it’s time to give it another crack.
For one thing, I’ve just a got a great new job as a senior consultant at a great new company in a great new city. It’s quite the professional transition though–much more than I had anticipated. My last gig lasted 8 years, and I had established enough of a reputation that my opinion was respected at all levels, from non-exempt staff to c-level officers.
Now … well, now I’m nobody; just a small fish in a very big pond. No reputation, no connections, no history. I guess that’s the part I’m finding it difficult to transition into: the fact that I have to start over–establish myself again from ground zero. In addition to that, my colleagues are all rock stars–authors, speakers, Microsoft MVPs. I feel like I need to get away from simply being the worker bee just to keep my head above water. And really, it’s not that bad–the fulfillment I get from writing is well worth it.
Hopefully I’ll stick with it this time. Lot’s to do though…this site needs a redesign, that’s for sure. I might have some technical tid-bits in here from time-to-time as well, so don’t be surprised to see some C# and ASP.NET every once in a while.
Ah, it feels good to be back.
